Things you should do

Remind any doctor or dentist you visit that you are using PONSTAN.
Call your doctor immediately if you become pregnant while taking PONSTAN.

Things you should not do
|
Do not give PONSTAN to anyone else, even if they have the same condition as you.
Do not take PONSTAN to treat any other complaints unless your doctor tells you.

Driving or using machines
|
Be careful before you drive or use any machines or tools until you know how PONSTAN
affects you. PONSTAN may cause dizziness or light-headedness in some people. If this
occurs do not drive.

|
Drinking alcohol
|
If you drink alcohol, it may increase your risk of developing gastrointestinal complications.
|
|
Looking after your medicine
|
Store it in a cool dry place away from moisture, heat or sunlight, below 30°C.
|
Do not use PONSTAN if:
1. You are allergic to:
2. You are pregnant and in the third trimester of your pregnancy.
3. You are breastfeeding.
4. You had diarrhoea with this medicine in the past.
5. You have a gastric ulcer (i.e. stomach or duodenal ulcer), a recent history of one, or have had gastric ulcers before.
6. You have or have had inflammation and/or ulceration of the lining of the stomach or bowel.
7. You have kidney disease.
8. You have severe heart failure.
9. You have liver failure.
10. You are about to have or have had recent coronary artery bypass surgery.
11. If the packaging is torn or shows signs of tampering.
12. The expiry date (EXP) printed on the pack has passed. If you take this medicine after the expiry date has passed, it may not work as well.
Check with your doctor if you:
Use of PONSTAN may increase your risk of developing cardiovascular events (e.g. heart attack) even if you don't have a history of heart disease.

Severe allergic reaction symptoms
Swelling of the face, lips or tongue which may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing
Asthma, wheezing, shortness of breath
Sudden or severe itching, skin rash, hives
Pain or tightness in the chest
Gastrointestinal symptoms:
Vomiting blood or material that looks like coffee grounds
Severe pain or tenderness in the stomach
Severe diarrhoea
Skin and blood related symptoms:
Bleeding or bruising more easily than normal
Reddish or purplish blotches under the skin
Severe blistering and/or peeling of layers of skin
Yellowing of the skin and eyes, also called jaundice
Signs of low iron levels (anaemia), such as tiredness, being short of breath, and
looking pale
Alertness problems
Fainting, seizures or fits
Severe dizziness
Changes to urine and stools:
Bleeding from the back passage, black sticky bowel motions (stools) or bloody diarrhoea
Change in the colour of urine passed, blood in the urine
A change in the amount or frequency of urine passed, burning feeling when passing
urine
Bulky, grey or pale coloured stools
Eye and ear symptoms:
Extreme sensitivity to bright light
Eye problems such as blurred vision or loss of colour vision
Ear pain
Head and neck:
Stiff neck
Severe or persistent headache
Other symptoms:
Severe blisters and bleeding in the lips, eyes, mouth, nose and genitals.
Fast or irregular heartbeats, also called palpitations
Excessive sweating
Signs of frequent or worrying infections such as fever, severe chills, sore throat
or mouth ulcers
Worsening blood sugar levels in patients with diabetes
Unusual weight gain, swelling of ankles or legs.

Stop use, call your doctor straight away, or go straight to the Emergency Department
at your nearest hospital if you notice any of these serious side effects.
