Metaraminol Torbay contains the active ingredient metaraminol tartrate. Metaraminol
Torbay is used to increase your blood pressure which can drop during spinal anaesthesia
or can drop as a reaction to medications or surgical complications.

Do not use if you have ever had an allergic reaction to Metaraminol Torbay or any
of the ingredients listed at the end of the CMI.
Talk to your doctor if you have any other medical conditions, take any other medicines,
or are pregnant or plan to become pregnant or are breastfeeding.

Metaraminol Torbay must only be given by a doctor or nurse.
Metaraminol Torbay is administered in a hospital as an injection into a vein or diluted
before use and given with fluids into a vein.
Your doctor will decide what dose of Metaraminol Torbay you will receive and how long
you will receive it for. This depends on your medical condition and other factors,
such as your weight.

Possible side effects include fast or pounding heartbeat, swelling of the face, lips,
mouth or throat which may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing, and breathlessness
or any difficulty breathing.

This leaflet provides important information about using Metaraminol Torbay. You should also speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you would like further information
or if you have any concerns or questions about using Metaraminol Torbay.
Where to find information in this leaflet:
Metaraminol Torbay contains the active ingredient metaraminol tartrate. Metaraminol Torbay is a sympathomimetic amine. It strengthens the contraction of
the heart muscle and constricts blood vessels to help increase the blood pressure.
Metaraminol Torbay is used to
increase your blood pressure which can drop during spinal anaesthesia or can drop
as a reaction to medications or surgical complications.
Do not use Metaraminol Torbay if:
you are allergic to metaraminol tartrate, any other similar medicines or any of the
ingredients listed at the end of this leaflet. Metaraminol Torbay contains sodium
metabisulfite. A sulfite may cause an allergic-type reaction or an asthmatic episode
in certain susceptible people.
Always check the ingredients to make sure you can use this medicine.
you are being given cyclopropane or halothane anaesthesia (unless clinical circumstances
demand their use).
the solution is discoloured, cloudy, turbid, or a precipitate is present.
Check with your doctor if you:
have any other medical conditions including:
liver disease
heart or thyroid disease
high blood pressure
diabetes
malaria
have allergies to any other medicines, sulphites or any other substances including
foods, preservatives or dyes.
take any medicines for any other condition
During treatment, you may be at risk of developing certain side effects. It is important
you understand these risks and how to monitor for them. See additional information

Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Check with your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant.
Talk to your doctor if you are breastfeeding or intend to breastfeed.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including any
medicines, vitamins or supplements that you buy without a prescription from your pharmacy,
supermarket or health food shop.
Some medicines may interfere with Metaraminol Torbay and affect how it works. These
include:
certain medicines used to treat depression, e.g. Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOI’s)
or Tricyclic antidepressants (TCA’s)
digoxin, a medicine used to treat heart failure
Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure about what medicines, vitamins
or supplements you are taking and if these affect Metaraminol Torbay.
Metaraminol Torbay must only be given by a doctor or nurse.
How much Metaraminol Torbay is given
Your doctor will decide what dose of Metaraminol Torbay you will receive and how long
you will receive it for. This depends on your medical condition and other factors,
such as your weight.
How Metaraminol Torbay is given
Metaraminol Torbay is administered in a hospital as an injection into a vein or diluted
before use and given with fluids into a vein.
If you are given too much Metaraminol Torbay
As Metaraminol Torbay is always given to you in a hospital under the supervision of
a doctor, it is unlikely that you will receive an overdose.
However, you should tell your doctor or nurse immediately if you feel unwell at all
whilst you are being given Metaraminol Torbay. You may need urgent medical attention.
Symptoms of an overdose may include:
nausea and/or vomiting
excessive sweating
breathlessness
tightness or pain in the chest
fast or slow heart beat
feeling of happiness
convulsions, fits or seizures
You should immediately:
phone the Poisons Information Centre
(by calling 13 11 26), or
(by calling 13 11 26), or
contact your doctor, or
go to the Emergency Department at your nearest hospital.

Getting rid of any unwanted medicine
Metaraminol Torbay should only be given to you in a hospital therefore the doctor
or nurse will dispose of any left over.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date.
All medicines can have side effects. If you do experience any side effects, most of
them are minor and temporary. However, some side effects may need medical attention.

This medicine is only available with a doctor's prescription.
